How it works

  1. Open it and play

It runs right in your browser, on your phone too.

The Last Lighthouse is a quiet, text-based idle game you can play right here — no download, no sign-up.

It begins with almost nothing: a cold room, a dark sea, and a lamp about to go out. There is one thing you can do. Do it, and the next thing appears.

Keep the light burning

The flame fades on its own, so it needs tending — and fuel. Driftwood washes up on the beach below. When the beam is bright enough, people lost in the fog begin to find their way to the shore, and each of them can help: gathering wood, fishing, pressing oil, or keeping the lamp lit through the night.

Build a small world

Huts give newcomers somewhere to sleep. A workshop, an oil press, a smithy and a fog horn each open up something new. Keep an eye on the fish stores: hungry people do not stay.

Walk into the fog

With a lantern, someone can set out for the wreck on the reef, the rock where a bell rings at midnight, a beach that glitters in the dark. They come back with iron, glass — and, sometimes, a page torn from an old logbook. The keeper who was here before you left more than a lamp behind.

A story with an ending

The Last Lighthouse is a complete mystery with a beginning, a middle and an end, usually an hour or two of play spread over as many sessions as you like. When you reach the end, you can light another lighthouse and start again with a little help from the first.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. The Last Lighthouse runs entirely in your browser and never uses credits.

What do I do at the start?

Tend the flame. The game starts with a single button on purpose — everything else appears as you go.

Does it keep going when I close the page?

Yes, for up to eight hours. When you come back, the game tells you what happened while you were away. Keep a lamplighter on duty and enough fishers to feed everyone so the island is still there when you return.

How long is it?

Usually one to two hours of play to reach the ending. You can spread it over as many sessions as you like.

Do I need an account?

No. Without an account your progress stays in this browser. Sign in to keep it on every device.
